History
Ancient history and settlement.
Dubai’s history as a settlement dates back to ancient times due to its strategic location along trade routes between Mesopotamia and the Indus Valley. It was historically a fishing and pearling village until the discovery of oil in the 20th century transformed it into a global business hub. Dubai rapidly developed under the visionary leadership of the ruling Al Maktoum family, diversifying its economy into trade, finance, tourism, and real estate. Today, Dubai is renowned for its modern architecture, luxury lifestyle, and role as a cosmopolitan city in the Middle East.
Geography
Ancient history and settlement.
Dubai is located on the eastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, along the Persian Gulf. The city’s geography is dominated by desert landscapes, including sand dunes and gravel plains, which contrast with its urban development. Dubai Creek, a natural inlet, divides the city into two parts: Deira to the north and Bur Dubai to the south. The construction of artificial islands, such as the Palm Jumeirah and The World islands, has expanded Dubai’s coastline and bolstered its reputation as a global tourist destination.
